There is news of relief for those suffering from serious illnesses. The government has approved the National Rear Disease Policy 2021. The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh under the National Health Fund's Umbrella Scheme for the treatment of critical illnesses. This policy will not be limited to BPL families only. But the beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana will get the benefit.
There are many challenges to preventing, treating and managing a serious illness, the government said. Early detection of a serious illness due to various reasons is a major challenge, including lack of first aid doctors, lack of proper screening and treatment. Medicine availability and access are critical to reducing the severity and mortality associated with serious illness. Effective and safe treatment for serious illnesses needs to be promoted. The cost of treating a serious illness is very high.
👉Severe diseases are divided into three groups
The policy also envisages funding arrangements, which will encourage companies and individuals to provide financial assistance for the treatment of serious diseases through a robust IT platform. The funds raised by this will be used by the Center of Excellence as the first fee for the treatment of rare diseases of all the three categories and then the remaining financial resources can also be used for research.
The policy aims to strengthen health care facilities for the prevention and treatment of serious diseases through 8 health facilities. The COE will also provide one-time financial assistance of up to Rs 5 crore for the improvement of diagnostic facilities.
👉7 to 8 thousand serious diseases
Let me tell you that there are 7000 to 8000 serious diseases, but less than 5% of these treatments are available. About 95 percent of rare diseases have no valid treatment and have less than 1 in 10 specific treatments. Medicines for some rare diseases are available which are very expensive.
